Needing a means of storing his passwords for various online domains, Vincent Bevort came up with Password Keeper, initially nothing more than an Excel sheet and now a small Microsoft Access database. Password Keeper provides an alternative to storing your passwords in a plain text document or writing them down on a piece of paper.

To get started with Password Keeper, you need to download a 172KB executable, run it and hit “Yes” when presented with the prompt that says “This will unpack the files for Vincent Bevort. Do you want to continue?” A few clicks later you’ll be done with the installation process and you’ll be able to start using Password Keeper.

Please note that Password Keeper will not work if you don’t have Microsoft Access. You need to have MS Access 2000 or a newer edition to be able to use the application.

If you are familiar with the Access interface, you’ll immediately feel at home using Password Keeper. There’s nothing too complicated, after all. To the left you have a list of all the companies/websites you have an account with. To the right you are presented with all the info you enter about that company/website.

If you’re familiar with the functionality Access has to offer, you won’t have any problems using Password Keeper. The application uses standard Access functionality to create, navigate and change records. You can use it to store usernames, passwords and URLs for various sites and online accounts.

Need a centralized location to store all your usernames and passwords? Why not give Password Keeper a try.

Pros

Takes little time to get Password Keeper up and running. The application uses standard Access functionality to create, navigate, change records. Password Keeper is free.

Cons

You can’t use it if you don’t have Access 2000 or a newer version.
